# Deschidem Mântuleasa

> A multi-year project of urban exploration, interdisciplinary education, culture and community engagement in Bucharest's Mântuleasa neighbourhood. Pilot edition: 3–4 October 2026.

Deschidem Mântuleasa este un proiect multianual de explorare urbană, educație interdisciplinară, cultură și implicare comunitară, inițiat de Youth Vision for Society. Pornește din cartierul Mântuleasa (sectorul 2, București) și îl folosește ca spațiu de cercetare pentru a înțelege mai bine orașul. Construiește, ediție după ediție, o monografie vie: participativă, interdisciplinară și deschisă. Mântuleasa este laboratorul. Orașul este subiectul.

Acces general gratuit. Strada Plantelor (segmentul Mântuleasa – Sf. Ștefan) este închisă traficului auto și devine pietonală în ambele zile, 09:00–22:00, ca parte din programul Străzi deschise – București, Promenadă urbană, în parteneriat cu ARCUB.

- 09:00–20:00 — Filter coffee tastings (Beans&Dots Mântuleasa). A dedicated Filter Coffee corner, with stories about the latest coffees from The Barn (Berlin).
- from 12:00 — Launch of the Brodēon fragrance collection (Beans&Dots Mântuleasa). Niche fragrances to try, with stories straight from Tom Hidvegi, the creator behind the brand. Free entry.
- 12:00–19:00 — Workshops for children (Centrul Aspera). Sessions of about 45 minutes, with 15-minute breaks. Recommended for children aged 4 to 10; free, subject to availability.

### RADAR în Comunitate — Mântuleasa Edition (sâmbătă și duminică, 19:00–22:00, gratuit)

- Cloud Memory — Guillaume Marmin · France: A light and sound sculpture inspired by clouds and organic structures. The work explores how memory is increasingly migrating from the biological to the digital, and questions where we keep our memories and information today.
- Array — Steven Mark Kübler · Austria: An installation in which light projected through layers of mesh transforms the space according to the viewer’s movement and perspective. The visitor’s shadow and body become part of the experience.
- Sonolume — Loomaland · Germany: An experience inspired by synaesthesia: visitors are invited to play the piano, and each note activates the installation’s light and colour, turning music into a visual and physical experience.
- OPINIONS — mots · Romania/Germany: An interactive AI-based installation that analyses visitors and gives them instant first impressions. The work questions how we assign value to automated opinions and snap judgements.
- Robotics workshop (Coding Hub): Children discover technology through play, building and experimenting: they build, test and program robots, starting from age-appropriate challenges.
- Street art workshop (Alex Baciu): A hands-on workshop on the process behind urban art — from idea and composition to colour, technique and execution — in which participants can experiment and contribute directly to the creative process.

## Cele opt straturi ale monografiei

- Patrimoniu: clădiri, fațade, materiale, ornamente, degradări, intervenții, restaurări și transformări
- Oameni și memorie: poveștile locuitorilor, amintiri, biografii, relații de vecinătate, memoria locurilor
- Locuire: case, apartamente, curți, scări, porți și praguri; relația dintre casă și stradă
- Spațiu public: strada, trotuarul, intersecția, colțul, banca, gardul, traseul zilnic
- Natură urbană: arbori, grădini, vegetație spontană, plante din curți, umbră, biodiversitate, microclimat
- Detalii: porți, clanțe, ferestre, numere de casă, tencuieli, inscripții, urme, obiecte
- Sunete și atmosferă: zgomot și liniște, voci, trafic, clopote, lumină, umbră, ritmul cartierului
- Idei pentru oraș: întrebări, scenarii, mici propuneri, direcții care merită explorate

## Metoda Mântuleasa Lab

1. Observăm — mergem pe teren și privim atent clădirile, străzile, curțile, vegetația, detaliile
2. Dialogăm — vorbim cu oameni, ascultăm povești, experiențe și amintiri
3. Cartografiem — construim hărți și conexiuni între locuri, funcțiuni, probleme și povești
4. Documentăm — fotografiem, lucrăm cu arhive și surse, construim materiale care pot fi păstrate
5. Interpretăm — transformăm cercetarea în fotografie, hartă, text, instalație, proiect, traseu
6. Prezentăm — rezultatele sunt prezentate public la evenimentul anual și intră în arhivă

### Is the event free?

General admission to the event is free. Some activities may involve a participation fee. If a fee applies, it will be clearly stated before registration, together with all relevant details about the activity.

### Do I need to register?

Not for general access to the event. Advance registration will be required for certain activities with a limited number of participants.

### When does it take place?

The Deschidem Mântuleasa pilot edition takes place on 3 and 4 October 2026, in the Plantelor Street area of Bucharest.

### Where can I find the full programme?

### Can I come with children?

Yes. The programme includes activities for children and families. Where an activity has age restrictions or requires registration, this will be clearly stated in its description.

### Can I take part if I do not live in Mântuleasa?

Yes. The event is open both to the local community and to anyone interested in the city, heritage, culture and urban exploration.

### Are places limited?

The event itself is open to the public. Some tours and workshops may have a limited number of places. In these cases, participation will be based on registration.
